Why sleeping at night is important
The sleep we have is different than you think. Most people don’t realize that they don’t get the same amount of rest as other people. There are several things to note when it comes to healthy sleep—all of which have a sleep benefit. A healthy sleep is an amazing asset in the long run, and should be your main focus in taking care of this precious commodity of our precious species. However, there are some health benefits to being asleep. If you aren’t getting adequate rest, then there is something amiss. Below I list a few health benefits associated with an adequate sleep.
High blood pressure
High blood pressure has been linked with coronary artery disease by studies. This includes those with high cholesterol levels. Studies also have shown that people with high blood pressure had a higher risk for stroke, heart failure, and even death. Blood pressure can be managed if not controlled. For example, one study found that lowering blood pressure by 15.0 below 95% of the normal systolic blood pressure (the top number) reduced the chances of having a heart attack or stroke by 21%.
Osteoporosis
Osteoporosis is one of the leading causes of mortality of women in the United States. People with osteoporosis tend to have less mass of bones. As bones deteriorate, they become more fragile and vulnerable to fractures. The most common form of bone fractures are spinal fractures. People who have osteoporosis tend to have weaker bones, are more prone to fractures in their limbs, and they are at an increased risk for coronary artery diseases. Women who are diagnosed with these problems face very little mobility or exercise, and that greatly reduces their quality of life. According to the National Osteoporosis Foundation, half of all men will suffer from osteoporosis by age 54 and 75 percent by age 80, while the same rate for females is 75 percent. These statistics should serve as a warning that any of us who are physically active and have strong and healthy bodies of muscles and bones, who eat a healthy diet, and take part in physical activity, should look out for the signs of osteoporosis.
Alzheimer's Disease
Alzheimer's disease is the major cause of dementia for men and women over 65 years of age. Alzheimer's disease tends to affect the hippocampus, which controls memory, emotional behavior, learning, planning, and decision making. Memory loss also occurs, according to researchers; the brain cells responsible for storing memories are affected. Research has also revealed that there is a direct relationship between Alzheimer's disease and vascular dementia. In addition, research has shown that Alzheimer's disease significantly increases the risk for the development of Parkinson's disease. Researchers believe that these two illnesses are caused by the accumulation of beta-amyloid plaques and tau protein, respectively, in the frontal and cerebellum of the brain. Symptoms associated with both disorders include tremors (tremors), confusion/loss of awareness, trouble remembering familiar names, and impaired ability to communicate and socialize with others, especially family members.
Depression
Depression is the third leading cause of disability worldwide. It’s estimated that approximately 500 million Americans experience depression today. Depression is a mental disorder that affects the emotions, moods, and patterns of thinking and behavior, both positive and negative. According to the World Health Organization, depression is defined as the presence of depressive symptoms. Depressed people tend to show depression symptoms throughout the day, usually having them during the weekend as well. They are considered to be depressed because of the following reasons: They feel worthless. They may experience loss of interest and enjoyment for activities they used to enjoy. They may even experience irritability and agitation. Some patients even use drugs to help alleviate their depression. Other medical conditions can interfere with depression; for instance, chronic pain may make depression worse.
Depressants work either by blocking neurotransmitters in the brain that release happiness, such as dopamine, serotonin, noradrenaline, noradrenaline reuptake inhibitors, monoamines, catecholamine blockers, amphetamines, antidepressants, antianxiety medication, noradrenaline receptor blockers, benzodiazepines, antipsychotics, opioids, hypnotics, alcoholics, migraine medications, stimulants, psychoactive drugs, or antidepressants.
Depression can be treated depending on how seriously or how severely depression is affecting someone’s life, and their treatment depends on the type of depression. Medication is commonly prescribed to treat depression. Antidepressants can reduce depression symptoms by reducing the production of noradrenaline and other neurotransmitters that trigger behavioral changes in the person. Antianxiety drugs work by inhibiting neural reward systems that bring about feelings of anxiety. Hypnosis can be used to help people in dealing with feelings of sadness or to gain control over emotional processes. An individual can also explore their thoughts and feelings without being pressured into feeling guilty, anxious, hopeless, or angry. Another option is to talk about feelings with a counselor or therapist who can help them sort out feelings of anger, depression, or grief.
Depression is treated not only mentally but also physically, physically. Many people see a psychiatrist for treatment of depression or a psychologist for a psychological evaluation if they can’t seem to deal with their feelings of negativity and feel like they need help in coping. Depending on the severity of the depression, the healthcare provider may prescribe medications such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and tricyclic antidepressants. SSRIs are antidepressants that act directly on the central nervous system (CNS). Tricyclic antidepressants are antidepressants that act indirectly by altering the CNS, primarily CNS neurotransmitters. They are generally classified as stimulants because they affect the balance between positive and negative emotions, motivation to move forward or away from a situation, and their effects are felt within 30 minutes and last several days. They tend to cause fluctuations in energy and movement in individuals whose daily routines involve moving around. Patients with depression have difficulty in concentrating, staying awake at night, or remembering things. SRSFs and SSRI treatments are used to manage depression for many people. Some people can learn to cope with depression in the early stages by engaging in regular exercise and going for therapy. Others need longer treatment because depression develops progressively with time, and people with severe forms of depression have severe cognitive impairment, including difficulties in remembering or carrying out tasks.
Depression is a serious disorder that needs specialized attention and care. Medical professionals should assess a person’s mental health (e.g., depression or suicide attempts), find out why they are feeling depressed, and then determine how best to help them manage the problem.
Meditation and Meditation
Meditation is a practice that involves focusing one's attention on a stillness or calmness and staying present and focused in order to reach a state of peace and tranquility.
The term “meditation” refers to multiple practices of mindfulness or meditation. The word meditation is derived from the Greek medisamen meaning to keep quiet. There is currently no science about what makes up a good meditation practice.
In general, meditation can be categorized into three types of meditation. Therapism meditation, relaxation meditation, and mindful meditation. Therapism meditation is practiced by practitioners as an alternative in place of regular counseling or therapy. Relaxation meditation involves changing a person’s or the mind’s perception of space so that they relax in a peaceful atmosphere by focusing on breathing in through the nose and exhalation out through the mouth. Mindful meditation means listening to the sounds and sights of nature that surrounds the the practitioner so that they can stay aware, calm, alert, and focused in their daily lives.
Meditation is a highly beneficial health tool when it comes to managing depression or suicide attempts. It promotes good self-care and reduces stress and anxiety and can decrease loneliness and stigma attached to mental health conditions such as depression. With proper practice, there is less likelihood of developing depression in oneself or getting depressed from others.
Meditation itself does not cure depression and there are certain areas of the body where meditation needs to be continued—including the brain, the immune system and the gastrointestinal tract. Focusing on the body’s ability to respond to depression makes sense since the body consists of billions of nerve cells that control moods.
Meditation helps to promote better sleep, as it reduces pain, anxiety and depression and allows people to be creative and effective. In fact, meditation is often seen as an ideal solution to all kinds of mental disorders and stress-related problems. Research shows that meditation enhances the quality of human being’s overall health and it can protect against cancer, diabetes, cardiac and neurological diseases, and many more.
